Q: What is Give the Gift of Theatre?

Give the Gift of Theatre is a fundraising campaign which supports accessible pricing at Hull Truck Theatre. Live theatre is a special experience with the power to move and inspire people which we aim to make available to all people. For many people, opportunities for cultural or social experiences are simply out of reach. This might be because of practical barriers like not being able to afford it, or perhaps not thinking of yourself as the kind of person who goes to the theatre. Your generosity will provide joyful experiences to facing barriers to attending theatre, removing financial barriers and gifting enriching experiences.

Q: Why are Hull Truck Theatre having a festive appeal?

Christmas is a special time of year for so many families, which also can make it the most difficult time of year for others. Give the Gift of Theatre is a campaign focused on reducing the financial and physical barriers local people face, with a focus on asking for support at this time of year to share experience the magic of live theatre in the spirit of the festive season.

Q: I didn’t realise Hull Truck Theatre was a charity. What does the money you raise go towards?

Hull Truck Theatre Company Ltd is a registered charity no 269645. As well as producing innovative work onstage, we make a difference in our community. Ticket income alone does not cover all our charitable work. We seek donations and grants to make our inspirational projects possible. This specific appeal aims to make our theatre shows accessible to people experiencing financial hardship who might otherwise not be able to come.

Q: Is there GiftAid being used on donations?

If you are a UK taxpayer, Gift Aiding your donation increases its value by 25% at no extra cost to you.

Q: What is the minimum/maximum I can donate?

£10 covers one ticket for a young person, but you can give at the right level for you, every small contribution counts. There is no minimum or maximum donation.

Q: Who will my donation help?

We work with community partners in specific areas of the city, especially in Orchard Park and Thornton Estate, to reach families experiencing financial hardship. These areas have been identified as the lowest arts engagement across the city. We work alongside Hull and East Yorkshire Children’s University to identify schools who would particularly struggle to afford school trips to the theatre at Christmas. We offer free visits to targeted school groups, heavily subsidised tickets for families coming through community groups, and offer a link to watch a recording of our main stage Christmas show to care homes around Hull and East Riding.

Q: How do I donate?

You can donate online at www.hulltruck.co.uk/support-us.

You can also speak to our Box Office team in person or via the phone on 01482 323638.
