Led by Hull Truck Theatre’s Associate Director, Tom Saunders, this programme is designed to equip you with the essential tools to bring your creative vision to life.
During this practical course, you’ll learn the fundamentals of theatre directing, gaining hands-on experience in the rehearsal room, and developing the skills needed to effectively lead a creative team. Topics will include scene study, stage composition, collaboration with actors and creative teams, as well as key practitioners from theatre history.
Bring your imagination to life and shape the stories you want to tell.
Tom Saunders is Associate Director at Hull Truck Theatre where he leads the Creative Learning department which works to inspire a lifelong love of theatre in children, young people and adults across the city.
For Hull Truck Theatre, he has directed Rapunzel, Guts! The Musical by Maureen Lennon, The Dutch Dash (Hull Truck Young Creators), Princess and The Frog, The Houses Are Sinking (and the adults don’t care) by Josh Overton, A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare, Jack, Mum & The Beanstalk by Sam Caseley, What Not To Do (Hull Truck Young Creators), Hull & High Water by Janet Plater, TEN by Ellen Brammar, Lydia Marchant, Josh Overton and Morgan Sproxton (Hull Truck Young Company), Miracle on The Humber by Sam Caseley and Maureen Lennon (digital shorts in association with KCOM), Consequences: A Humberside Soap Opera (co-created with a team of actors, writers and young people from schools across Hull) and co-created Tortoise & The Hare (schools and community tour.)
