Hull Truck Theatre presents
The Little Mermaid
- Written and directed by Tom Saunders
Join Coral and her friends on an under the sea adventure this festive season.
Coral is a friendly, fun and inquisitive little mermaid… but she’s a mermaid with a problem. Whilst she loves nothing more than nattering away with her family and closest pal Finn the fish, when it comes to talking to new people… something strange happens… she completely clams up.
But can a chance meeting with a human from above the waves bring Coral out of her shell? Or will she fall hook, line and sinker for the sea witch’s trickery and never find her voice?
Exploring themes of friendship, courage and confidence, this heartwarming adventure is a modern-day twist on a classic story. From the team that brought you Rapunzel, Princess and the Frog and Jack, Mum and The Beanstalk, join Hull Truck Theatre for another magical festive production. Specially designed for young audiences and their families.

With your help, we are offering free or heavily discounted tickets to people experiencing financial hardship to experience live theatre.
Donate Here
Last year you gave over 700 people the chance to enjoy a theatre show at no cost to them. This year, help us spread the magic even further.
Even the smallest amount can make the biggest difference. By donating just £10, you can provide a free ticket to a local young person who otherwise wouldn’t be able to have an enriching experience at the theatre.
Please consider paying it forward and share the joy of live theatre this festive season.
The Little Mermaid
Our show is designed for children aged 3-6 and their families. The show is designed to be bright, playful and easy to follow, with a simple storyline that younger children can enjoy without needing lots of concentration. The show features gentle humour, clear dialogue and memorable songs that will appeal to both little ones and their grown-ups.
How will we be seated?
When you are called to enter the Godber Studio, an usher will scan your ticket and direct you to your seat. Your tickets will show your seat numbers.
Can I get up and take my child to the toilet?
Yes, you can. We just ask that were possible you leave via the closest door to your seat; an usher will make sure you get back to your seat safely and quickly.
Can children join in during the show?
Yes! There are moments in the show when the actors will actively encourage children to shout out and join in by helping the characters throughout the story.
Is there anything that might be scary or sad?
There are a few moments of peril as the characters go on their adventure, but nothing is intended to be frightening.
Any dramatic moments are softened with friendly characters, colourful visuals and a reassuring, happy tone throughout.
Sound and lighting are used in a gentle way to keep children engaged without overwhelming them. When lights are dimmed between scenes it will never be completely black, some parts of the stage will stay illuminated.
You meet a shark as part of the adventure; he is a puppet and doesn’t come out into the audience.
Can I take photos or video?
We ask that you don’t take photos and videos during the show and help to keep the magic alive for those who haven’t seen it yet.
What is a BSL interpreted performance?
British Sign Language (BSL) interpreted performances enable Deaf BSL users to understand the performance through the signs of an interpreter, who translates the spoken language into BSL. The position of the BSL interpreter will usually be indicated on the seating plan.
The BSL interpreted performance for The Little Mermaid is on Sat 20 Dec, 1.15pm.
