The Culture set even nabs the furniture!

Our hotly anticipated new comedy inspired by Hull's City of Culture year takes audiences behind the scenes of what has been an astonishing twelve months for the city.

The Culture – A Farce in Two Acts by the award-winning playwright James Graham, himself a graduate of the University of Hull, is a humorous look at the inner workings of Hull 2017 as they get set to handover to the next City of Culture, Coventry 2021.

James Graham is renowned for his sharp and satirical scripts that have attracted sell-out audiences to shows in London's West End and around the country. He has spent the last few months visiting Hull, seeing events, and talking to people including Martin Green and the Hull 2017 team, volunteers, the council and partner organisations.

The play's cast got to know the Hull 2017 team during rehearsals on a visit to the offices on Lowgate in the city's Old Town, whilst the set designer Sophie Phillips has even been given access to some of the office furniture to give the onstage action extra authenticity. Borrowed items include desks and swivel chairs, filing cabinets, drawers and computer screens, as well as the giant Hull 2017 slogan posters that residents and visitors will recognise from around the city. The real Hull 2017 volunteer charter board is also part of the set.

The play opens on Friday 26 Jan and runs until Saturday 17 Feb.
