A different guest will be making a special stage appearance during every performance of James Graham's eagerly anticipated new comedy The Culture - A Farce in Two Acts, which is set in the offices of Hull 2017. Familiar local and national figures from the worlds of politics, the arts and sport have bravely committed themselves to performing in a scene. They’ll have a short rehearsal of their appearance just before they go on stage.
We won’t be announcing the special line-up, and all the guests involved have promised to keep the big secret until after their performance so as not to spoil the surprise!
Playwright James Graham said "We wanted to reflect the sense of fun and mischief of Hull's City of Culture year, and the number of great artists, musicians and high-profile figures who've contributed to it. The best theatre should feel live, and the best farces should feel unpredictable, so a rotating conveyor belt of well-known local and national guests seems like a fun - if frightening! - way to do that.”
An unnamed special guest added, “I’m not going to lie, I’m not really sure what to expect with this. It’s going to go one of two ways: it’ll either put me in the running to win an Olivier Award or I’ll never set foot in the theatre again! We’ll see!”
