It's vital, energetic and powerful work that further embeds the North as a place of thrilling creative adventures for our times.
Northern Stage Artistic Director, Lorne Campbell: “It is with great excitement that we return to Edinburgh this year, not just to deliver an amazing, diverse and passionate programme of vital new theatre from across the north of England, but to begin a new collaboration that will evolve, expand and enrich our Edinburgh project for years to come. Northern Stage is delighted to begin a partnership between major northern venues to support, present and empower the best of the flourishing independent theatre sector.”
Ric Watts, Senior Producer, Royal Exchange Theatre: “Northern Stage’s Edinburgh programme has become a vital platform for artists from across the North of England to present their work at the world’s largest arts festival as part of a collective of passionate artists and companies. We are thrilled to join Northern Stage at Summerhall and become part of a new collaboration, alongside Hull Truck Theatre and West Yorkshire Playhouse, championing bold voices from across our regions.”
West Yorkshire Playhouse New Work Producer, Gilly Roche: “We believe that the north of England is home to some of the most innovative, generous and provocative theatre makers in the world. We’re delighted to partner with such an illustrious group of theatres to deliver a programme that is diverse, excellent and, we hope, truly reflective of the outstanding quality of the work being made in Yorkshire, the North West and the North East.
Previous year’s programmes have included Open Clasp’s Key Change - winner of the Carol Tambor Best of Edinburgh Award, and the Fringe First Award-winning Going Viral by Daniel Bye. Full details of the 2017 programme will be announced in May.
Northern Stage at Summerhall are recruiting a team of Front of House and Technical volunteers to help run the venue for the month. It's an amazing opportunity to learn new skills, network with industry professionals and help to create a working venue from scratch. See how you can get involved here.
