William Golding’s Lord of the Flies runs from 11 Sep - 3 Oct 2020 at Hull Truck Theatre

William Golding’s Lord of the Flies runs from 2 Oct - 24 Oct 2020 at Derby Theatre

Lord of the Flies will open in Hull, playing from Friday 11 September - Saturday 3 October, before transferring to Derby Theatre to run from Friday 2 - Saturday 24 October.

In the midst of war and in the wake of a disastrous plane crash, a group of schoolchildren are left stranded on a desert island. With no adult supervision, they relish the freedom to govern themselves, but order soon collapses as their world plunges into violent brutality.

Lord of the Flies is a timeless masterpiece, as relevant today as it was when Golding first published his novel in 1954. This contemporary retelling examines the terrifying path to humanity's self-destruction.

I’m really looking forward to this new co-production with Derby Theatre. As theatres we share similar values and we hope to approach this version of Lord of the Flies with a view to it resonating with the politics of our time. It’s also great to see this classic story being directed by Sarah Brigham, with Sarah’s connection to Hull there’s something really special about her being at the helm and bringing the show to launch in her home city.”

Mark Babych (Artistic Director at Hull Truck Theatre)

I am delighted to be directing this classic story in co-production with Hull Truck Theatre, the company which ignited my passion in theatre when I was in Youth Theatre there as a child.   Lord of the Flies is an iconic text with contemporary resonance and provides me, as director, with a wealth of material to really get my teeth into.  I think it very definitely has something to say for our times and I hope to bring that out in the production, making it a thrilling drama for our audiences.”

Sarah Brigham (Chief Executive and Artistic Director, Derby Theatre and Director of Lord of the Flies)
