Give the Gift of Theatre 2023 raises £2,700

02 Feb 2024 | General News

Due to the generosity of Hull Truck Theatre supporters, we have raised over £2,700 over the festive period to give the mesmerising experience of live theatre to our community.

Thank you to everyone who donated to this campaign for being a vital part of making Christmas last year so special for the people in Hull and East Riding who need it most.

With their support, more than 1,500 people have been able to access the arts by seeing Pinocchio or Princess and the Frog at the theatre who otherwise wouldn’t have had the opportunity.

School children in low-income areas of our city were able to step through the theatre doors for free, diving into the magical world of Pinocchio to experience the adventurous journey of growing up and finding who you are.

Taster workshops in Orchard Park and Thornton Estate meant people could get creative together as a family before coming to the show, colouring their own Frogs and designing mischievous cats and foxes inspired by the Pinocchio characters. Across the two Christmas shows many people were able to attend with their friends and families without the barrier of cost.

For the people who couldn't make it to the theatre, we were able to send DVDs and streaming links to 52 care homes across the region bringing joy right to their doorstep with a recording of Pinocchio to enjoy comfortably at home.

To all of our donors - thank you for sharing the possibilities and magic which theatre brings on behalf of all of the people you have inspired last year. You have been a part of making theatre truly accessible for everyone.
