Moving into the second part of our 50th Anniversary year we are now looking to the future, where we will be celebrating new writing, female voices and continue to champion people from Hull with the work of Amanda Whittington.

We are now excited to announce that @gemma.oaten will be playing the role of Shelley. Known from her most recognizable role as Rachel Breckle (Emmerdale 2011 – 2015), for which she received Best Newcomer nominations for the TV Choice Awards, British Soap Awards and Inside Soap Awards.

“As a proud Hull girl, I grew up with many a regular visit to Hull Truck Spring Street Theatre as it was then. Every visit I would be entranced and dreamed of being on that stage. As with the move to Ferensway, I would go as often as I could, still with that same desire. Mark Babych has really taken our beautiful theatre to exciting and dizzy heights and the work of Amanda Whittington has always captivated me; she is a formidable talent. I feel truly honoured to be a part of this brilliant show and to be able to come back to the roots I love more than anything... Our Ull!" - Gemma Oaten

You can now watch Gemma Oaten speak to Carol Vorderman on this morning's Lorraine - https://binged.it/3IB4SGG

"I've just found out that I've got one of the lead roles in a new Hull Truck Theatre play called Ladies Unleashed which is a world premier and i’m absolutely delighted because i'm going back to my roots" - Gemma Oaten
