Donations welcome for The Open Doors Project
24 Nov 2023 | General News
Over the festive season Hull Truck Theatre will be collecting donations for The Open Doors Project. This Charity welcomes, supports and helps destitute sanctuary seekers, refugees and migrant workers who are living and working in Hull and East Yorkshire. We’re asking our generous audiences to donate any non-perishable food items (e.g. tins, rice, pasta, sugar, tea bags, coffee) and unused toiletries (e.g. shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, soap). These items can be left in the designated area in our foyer space on the ground floor of the theatre. Cecil Jones, Project Coordinator at Open Doors, said: “Here at Open Doors, we welcome everyone that comes through our doors and this Christmas using your generous donations, we want to present our clients with store cupboard essentials to ensure they are fully stocked with everything they need over the festive season”. Open Doors is a Charity which Hull Truck Theatre works closely with all year round. With the help of Cecil Jones, who is also one of the theatre’s Community Ambassadors, we are building connections and forming relationship with those who use the charity’s support and services. Charlotte Denston, Community Partnership Coordinator at Hull Truck Theatre, said: “Although Christmas is a joyful time for many, for some, it can be challenging. Many people who use the Open Doors service are separated from their families and surviving on a very low income. We’re asking our audiences and communities to come together to give what they can to ensure that they have a warm and comfortable Christmas and feel the love that Hull has to offer.” Please feel free to bring donations when you come to see one of our Christmas shows. To book for Pinocchio (24 November – 31 December) or Princess and the Frog (13 – 31 December), visit the What’s On section of our website or call the Box Office on 01482 323638. Open Doors is based at the Methodist Church on Princes Avenue, Hull. If you would like to make any larger donations, such as children’s toys or clothing, please visit them directly.
