Cast announced for The Culture - A Farce in Two Acts

We're thrilled to announce the cast for James Graham’s new comedy, The Culture - A Farce in Two Acts. The play, which premieres here in January next year, takes a satirical look at Hull’s year in the spotlight.

The cast are Amelia Donkor (What Shadows for Birmingham Rep, Lyceum Edinburgh and The Park Theatre; Villette at West Yorkshire Playhouse); Andrew Dunn (BBC sitcom Dinnerladies; The Railway Children at King’s Cross Theatre); Martin Hyder (Dead Dog in a Suitcase for Kneehigh; The Merry Wives of Windsor for the Royal Shakespeare Company); Jordan Metcalfe (The Hypocrite for Hull Truck Theatre, The RSC and Hull 2017; Wendy and Peter for The RSC); Nicola Reynolds (The Rise and Fall of Little Voice at Theatr Clwyd; Stella on Sky 1) and Matt Sutton (The Hypocrite for Hull Truck Theatre, The RSC and Hull 2017; The House They Grew Up In for Headlong Theatre and Chichester Festival Theatre).

The creative team are Mark Babych (Director), Sophie Phillips (Set and Costume Designer), Adam Foley (Lighting Designer), and Mathew Clowes (Sound and AV Designer).

James Graham has had huge success this year, including his productions of Ink and Labour of Love in the West End, and Quiz at Chichester Festival Theatre which is transferring to the West End in Spring.

He has been given special behind the scenes access to the running of the festival whilst writing the play. He’s spoken to many people involved, including Hull 2017 CEO Martin Green, members of Hull City Council and employees of partner organisations to get a full picture of how a civic festival comes together.

The Culture: A Farce in Two Acts is the perfect end to our year of exceptional drama. James is a brilliant talent with two plays currently running in the West End and a third on its way. We have brought together a stellar cast, including the welcome return of Andrew Dunn as Dennis and great Hull actors Matt Sutton and Jordan Metcalfe who last appeared in The Hypocrite. We have some wonderful comic actors alongside them and a talented creative team ready to deliver James’ hilarious script that will shine the satirical spotlight on this most incredible year as we have over to our colleagues in Coventry.
