The Whispering Jungle

A new, multi-sensory, asmr-integrated theatre production for audiences with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD).

The Turtle, the Monkey, and the Bird have all lost their home. Men in big, bright, yellow jackets came and chopped down all the trees. Now they’re forced away to fend for themselves, make their own new homes and pick up the pieces of the mess that the humans have left behind. How will the animals cope on their own? What can humans do to make the world better for the animals of the rainforest? And why is the Turtle so clumsy?

Concrete Youth’s new multi-sensory theatre production, The Whispering Jungle, brings together ASMR, sensory play and sensory puppets in an immersive touring production for young audiences with profound and multiple learning disabilities. Come and help the animals of the rainforest rebuild their home and realise that home really is wherever you’re with your family.

When you book a ticket to The Whispering Jungle, you will gain access to Concrete Youth's free pre and post online sensory stories with a member of Concrete Youth's team. Join us, via Zoom, on dates before and after your scheduled performance to enjoy a sensory story version of The Whispering Jungle, chat about the show, make some new friends and immerse yourself in the world of The Whispering Jungle!

The Whispering Jungle is supported by Arts Council England, National Lottery Community Fund, Ashley Family Foundation, Back to Ours, Kilpatrick Fraser Charitable Trust, Hull City Council, and Hull Truck Theatre.

What is ASMR?

ASMR is the term for the sensation people get when they watch stimulating videos or take part in other activities — usually ones that involve personal attention. Many people describe the feeling as “tingles” that run through the back of someone’s head and spine. Others say the feeling is deeply relaxing, and can even cause them to fall asleep.

If a participant requires more than one carer please contact the Box Office on 01482 323638 or email boxoffice@hullruck.co.uk to let us know.

Pre and Post Show online sensory sessions

Concrete Youth would like to invite all bookers to a pre and post show online sensory session of The Whispering Jungle. Your Zoom links will be send via email, the day after booking. Please check your junk/spam folders.

These informal sessions will take audiences through exactly what to expect from their trip to the theatre.

Concrete Youth have designed some household alternatives to the sensory stimuli you may experience during the show and we'll provide you with a list of items you will need to source, ahead of the sessions.
