Partly inspired by the true story of the Osiris Players, a troupe of female actors who toured the British Isles from 1927 – 1963, this new production is a tribute to the feisty, fearless all-female touring companies of the post war years. Under the dogmatic direction of the redoubtable Flora Bellerby, witness the Pallas Players – Win, Doris, Flora, Bea, Aileen, Connie and Juliet – as they play all the hilarious and diverse characters from Compton Mackenzie’s comedy classic.
This production’s all-female cast are Sally Armstrong (Men Should Weep at the National Theatre; The Guid Sisters at the National Theatre of Scotland), Lila Clements (A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Royal Shakespeare Company; Therese Raquin at Park Theatre and Finborough Theatre), Isabel Ford (Martha, Josie and the Chinese Elvis at Hull Truck Theatre; Hard Times at Oldham Coliseum), Christine Mackie (Dancing Through the Shadows at Hull Truck Theatre; Daphne Bryant in Downton Abbey), Alicia McKenzie (A Christmas Carol at St Joseph Theatre; Cinderella at Octagon Theatre Bolton), Joey Parsad (Around The World in 80 Days at New Vic Theatre; Like Mother Like Daughter by Complicite) and Shuna Snow (Brideshead Revisited by English Touring Theatre and York Theatre Royal; Twelfth Night at The Rose).
