Hull Truck Theatre Company's writing programme, open to budding playwrights with any level of experience, is returning. Led by professional writer Dave Windass (Sully, On A Shout), PlayWrite is an eight-week course held on Tuesday or Thursday nights in which new and experienced writers can hopefully learn and develop their writing skills.
There are two groups; ages 18-28 and 29+.
Applications are now being taken for the 18-28 and the 29+ group. These will run:
18-28: Tuesday nights from 7th June - 26th July 2011, 6.30pm - 9pm
29+: Thursday nights from 16th June - 4th August 2011, 6.30pm - 9pm
NB. Applicants must be able to commit to the full eight sessions. Applications will not be considered otherwise.
The Course: Over eight weeks, participants will be encouraged to write theatre, alongside looking at individual elements of playwriting, such as character, plot, dialogue, structure and location. The participants will be introduced to classic plays by accomplished playwrights, and will be invited to watch a Hull Truck Theatre production free of charge.
Throughout the course, participants will be encouraged to write an original play, which will ultimately be read by Hull Truck's Artistic team, including Literary Manager Nick Lane. Every participant will receive detailed feedback and experience the process of developing a new play with a professional Theatre.
Applications: Applicants are asked to submit an introductory letter, outlining their writing experiences (if any) and why they would like to take part in the programme. Applicants should also submit an example of their playwriting. This could be a stand-alone piece of writing or an extract from a full-length play, but examples should be no more than 2 A4 pages, single spaced, font size 12.
Deadline for PlayWrite 18-28 applications: Monday 30th May 2011.
Deadline for PlayWrite 29+ applications: Wednesday 1st June 2011.
Successful applicants will be contacted by Friday 3rd June.
PlayWrite courses are free of charge, but successful applicants will be required to pay an administration charge of £1.25 (18-28) per week or £2.50 (29+) per week; payable in full prior to the first session.
Applications will be accepted by email to literary@hulltruck.co.uk (mark e-mails 'PlayWrite 18-28' or 'PlayWrite 29+')
Or by post: Dave Windass, c/o Literary Dept, Hull Truck Theatre, 50 Ferensway, Hull, HU2 8LB (Marking 'PlayWrite 18-28' or 'PlayWrite 29+' on envelope)
