Mike Bradwell and the Original Truckers
It was forty years ago today...
In March 1972 Hull Truck opened their first show Children of the Lost Planet at the Gulbenkian Theatre, University of Hull. They lived on the dole in Coltman Street, their office was the phone box outside and their plays were frequently banned. Forty years on director Mike Bradwell and original members of the company reunite for One Night Only to present an evening of scenes, songs and stories from the pioneer years.
Excerpts from Children of the Lost Planet, Oh What!, The Knowledge and Bridget's House - as well as cabaret from The Melody Bandbox Rhythm Roadshow - will be performed by John Lee, Steve Halliwell, Dave Greaves, Alan Williams, Cas Patton, Rachel Bell, Mary East, Pete Nicholson, David Ambrose, Steve Marshall and David Hatton.
In forty years Hull Truck has moved from freezing in Coltman Street to national and international success and our new state-of-the-art theatre. Don't miss this unique opportunity to celebrate how it all began.
Mike Bradwell founded Hull Truck Theatre and was its first Artistic Director, running it for eleven years. He continues to be a major figure in British theatre and a leading director of new plays for companies such as The Royal Court. From 1996-2007 he was Artistic Director of the Bush Theatre, London. Tonight's performance will be his first for Hull Truck since 1983.
