A few photos that remind me of our time in Paris. Street entertainers with some bizarre acts! (spiderman as his sidekick!) and the Moulin Rouge and oh those gorgeous cakes and coffee street cafe's. The markets were also very interesting (although expensive) but it just added to the romance of the whole place. The rues were full of well dressed ladies as you neared the fashion house shops, and when you walked by them you got a waft of elegant perfume and an eyeful of what you cant afford! A very cosmopolitan and expensive city but worth the window shop if not just to see how the other half live.

Bonjour mes amies,

'Twas some years back (c. 1993 ) when I had booked a long weekend in Paris for Barbara and myself.

Unfortunately Barbara was ill and could not make the trip, but bless her - she insisted that rather than cancel that I take Helen ( our 15 year old daughter ).

Weekend went great, doing all the sites, lots of dad/daughter bonding until the Sunday morning.... we had planned the Eiffel Tower and the queues were phenomenal but Helen wanted to climb to the top - so we joined the long queue and trudged very slowly up the steps, queuing with young couples in front and to the rear kissing and cuddling, giggling and cooing ....

We had joined the queue on Valentines Day and some of the looks that I received standing with this extremely attrcative young lady were very much " Le Dirty Old Man !!! "   ..... C'est la vie

Apart from April, the best time to visit Paris is early October when the Prix De L'Arc Triomphe is staged at Longchamp in the beautiful Bois de Boulogne district. This is not only Europe's most prestigious horse race but has a tremendous atmosphere, and attracts the rich and famous to a truly stylish occasion.

During the Sunday morning you can savour Parisian life with coffee and croissants on the banks of the Seine before visiting Sacre Coeur in the Montmartre area were all the artists meet. You will be unlucky if it is not a pleasant sunny, warm Autumn day which also makes it special as you view Eiffel Tower and other landmarks from this lofted position.

We were three women celebrating our friends 40th birthday  this was 22 years ago. We did the usual visits around Paris but had a number of what we thought were unusual experiences.

One night we went to a Disco and chatted to some French men who asked two of us to have a dance and then a glass of champagne with them we did while our third friend sat it out when we returned to their table we had a glass of champagne with them. During the dance the two men had told us they were deaf but danced to the beat of the music on the dance floor, our friend didn’t hear this as she was sat down at the table.  During our glass of champagne she spent some time bellowing across the table to them.  We have laughed about it many times since.  We never did find out if they really were deaf or having us on.

Our other experience was in our hotel at breakfast in the dining room it was filled with French Hunks  who were the French Rugby team on tour which made breakfasts very interesting.

Our final event on this short stay in Paris we were sat in an outside café in the Mont Mart artist area and one of the artists left his easel came across to our friend and gave her a piece of paper, on it he had drawn a rose and a heart.  We had a fabulous time and our friend had a memorable 40th Birthday

For a wedding anniversary I once treated my husband and I to a long weekend in Paris. Paris was truly delightful. We stayed on the left bank and whilst I breathed in all the arty, elegant, student atmosphere, he wittered about missing out on a game of golf with the blokes from work….

I oohed and ahhed over the architecture and he chuntered about wanting a proper mug of tea. I was fascinated watching the people and he expected us to feted since we were British. We knew only 'merci/thank you' between us, the typical English tourists with not enough courtesy to have learned some of the country's words! We trawled restaurant menus looking for 'frogs legs' to taste.

We never found the frogs legs, menus were in french of course and we didn’t know what frogs legs in french was! And we certainly didn’t have the courage to ask French folks what to look for, too blessed arrogant for our own good!

Three weeks later at a restaurant in Milton Keynes, there they were! Frogs legs! So yes we decided to try them, but for me, never again!
The sight of those scrawny thighs laid in sauce, looking far to humanoid, put me right off!

Ironic to find them in Milton Keynes and no, the marriage didnt last!
But Paris? Fascinating! Id love to go back!

I went to Paris with my University art history group in November 2005. We stayed in a clinical travel lodge, whilst one of our lecturers stayed in one of the fanciest hotels in Paris!!!

We visited the Musee D'Orsey and La Louvre during the day and partied in the night.

It was such a tiring trip! What made it really special for me was that it was the first time i'd spent away from my boyfriend, who i'd been 'sort of' seeing for a couple of months. Being apart from him, even for a few days, showed me that i loved him and wanted to be with him. 4 years later, and we're still going strong!!

I have a couple of memories of time in paris the first time I went was with my mother and a friend when  I was about 15 and stayed with my Aunt who was a bank manager for NatWest. I remember spending time running around by the sacre coeur and up and down the steps there and also going up and down the escalators outside the Georges Pompodou centre and dragging my mum across paris JUST to se the TGV as I am a great train buff.

The other time i recall was in 2007During the Rugby World Cup my son brought me a CD for Fathers day and I entered the Competition and won a weekend to the Prix de L'arc du triomphe horse race,it coinciding with the world cup was better as managed to get the real atmosphere of watching the Games in the Rugby village by the Eiffel Tower and I recall Laying down under the Tower and taking a photo looking up from under it at a large inflatable ball. The Horse racing was great and shared the box with Lester Pigott and James Nesbitt we didnt win anything as you can imagine we were a little anoyed because I had picked the winner of the last race but hadnt put a bet on.I would really like to go back to Paris this year or Next and take my Girlfriend Louise with me.
