HULL TRUCK BOUNCERS TOUR BOUNCES INTO HULL SCHOOLS!

Pupils at Hull and East Riding schools will have the chance to see a 30 minute adaptation of John Godber’s classic play Bouncers thanks to the theatre’s Education Department.

A pared-down version of the play, comes home after being on the road in North and North East Lincolnshire and Doncaster schools. Actors Scott Solway, Matthew Wynn and Peter McMillan will perform at Endeavour, Hessle, Cottingham and Wolfreton High Schools beginning on 12th March. There will also be a performance at Driffield School on 15th March.

Bouncers is a landmark play which was written 30 years ago by Hull Truck Theatre’s Joint Artistic Director John Godber. The show is a no frills production using nothing more than one beer barrel and three handbags! The production is designed for groups of up to 30 students in an intimate classroom setting. It will be followed by a workshop where the audience can ‘hot seat’ the actors, ask them questions and learn more about their characters.

The project is aimed at Years 10 and 11 and takes a sharp, edgy look at today’s urban life. As the script says: ‘late at night in every town when the pubs are shut and the beer’s been downed.’ The actors multi-role play switching between doormen working at a local club to lads and lasses out on the town hell bent on having a good time!

This gritty take on the nightclub scene follows what happens as 21st birthday girl Rosie and her pals Maureen and Elaine rub shoulders with lads Kev, Terry and Baz, dressed in their new gear and ‘on the pull’ while it’s just another night for bouncers Lucky Eric, Judd and Les.

Students will relate to Bouncers and the production is designed to tie in with elements of English Literature and Drama on the curriculum.
