HULL TRUCK SERVES UP A SIZZLING NEW SEASON OF WORK!

Tickets for Hull Truck’s exciting autumn/winter programme are now available on line and at the Box Office. Now is the time to bag a bargain through one of the new season ticket offers, as seats will be rapidly snapped up for Truck’s Christmas shows and entertainment to brighten the long winter evenings!

The season opens on 13th September with Tim Firth’s award-winning comedy Neville’s Island, directed by Hull Truck’s Artistic Director Gareth Tudor Price. Soaking wet and starving, work colleagues Neville, Angus, Gordon and Roy find themselves stranded on island when a teambuilding exercise goes wrong! The theatre’s premiere of Sold co-written by Hull Truck’s Artistic Director John Godber and Jane Thornton pays tribute to the Wilberforce Bicentenary. It tells the harrowing and often dehumanising story of some of the 15 million women and children who are sold into the sex trade each year.

It is followed by the 30th anniversary production of John Godber’s famous Bouncers, which returns to Hull Truck fresh from its nationwide Autumn Tour. Christmas sales come but once a year, as we join the staff of Jasper & Yates department store for the premiere of Nick Lane’s comedy Blue Cross Xmas! There’s festive fun for children age four and over with Little Red Riding Hood, packed with mad songs, silly rhymes and a wolf on trial for his life! On A Shout, by Dave Windass, the writer of Sully, follows the fortunes of An East Yorkshire Lifeboat crew on The Point as they battle with Force 10 gales and crashing waves.

Don’t miss the Hull Truck Festival from 15th – 20th October which features music and dance from Flamenco Express, a night with the ‘Maverick Phenomenon,’ smuggler, MI6 Agent, TV personality, ‘folk hero’ and travel writer Howard Marks; and a stunning new show from Yorkshire-born folk artist Eliza Carthy. Other highlights include Barnsley poet-extraordinaire Ian McMillan and Henwen, five Yorkshire women who write and sing. Watch out for musical and comic improvisers Mundo Jazz, and talented Australian comedian Adam Hills, whilst families
will be delighted by Moby Duck’s The Wishing Bridge which mixes storytelling with South African dance.

Favourite story tellers and the Truck Tales Trucktacular Gang return with their zany story-telling events on Saturday afternoons which have proved to be so popular that you need to book early to get a seat! Music enthusiasts can enjoy Hull Truck’s J Nights with artists like jazz folk diva Gwyneth Herbert from the world of music and jazz. Comedy fans will be treated to some the most sought-after names in the business including Michael McIntyre, and Phil Nichol. Hull Truck also welcomes back Hull Playgoers Society who present the compelling drama Rough Justice.

Hull Truck’s Education Department has another busy year ahead running the Youth Theatre for 10 -21 year-olds which meets weekly, and producing schools tours and numerous other creative projects in the community. The team presents bespoke workshops and projects, and provides corporate training packages. If you fancy yourself as bit of a Shakespeare, Hull Truck’s PlayWrite project offers 10 week courses for 18-28 year-olds and those age 29 and over, to equip you for the trade.

Building work has now begun on Hull Truck Theatre’s high profile new home on Ferensway, which is due for completion in late 2008. In the meantime the theatre continues to welcome patrons to its intimate venue for a challenging and entertaining programme of work. So don’t miss out!
