If you have a play that you feel we should see, there is a newly assembled and dedicated team of script-readers here at Hull Truck who are waiting to share in it. We can now guarantee that all scripts sent to us will be read, typically within 2-3 months, and if feedback is required then we can naturally provide that too. Here are a few guidelines as to how to submit:
Length
There is no set length; do not worry that if it's too short we won't take it seriously or if it's too long we won't read it all - a story finds its natural length.
Previous exposure
We will only read unsolicited submissions if the scripts are new and have not been produced professionally. Plays that have had rehearsed readings or any other type of exploration done on them will be fine, however.
Subject matter
As far as we're concerned, this is up to you. Set it anywhere, make it about anything, tell your story how you like; we just want to read good plays.
How to submit
We don't mind if you want to post your script to us or e-mail it; scripts come in different shapes, sizes, formats and fonts - everyone has their own.
- By e-mail: Send your complete script to literary@hulltruck.co.uk, marking the message heading 'Script submission.
By post: Scripts should be posted to: Nick Lane, Literary Manager, Hull Truck Theatre, 50 Ferensway, Hull, HU2 8LB. Please provide an SAE if you want your script returned.
Once you've submitted
Our readers will send feedback which will stay on file here at Hull Truck for future reference. If you require some feedback too then please let us know; they will send you some suggestions, hints and tips that might help take your script on to greater heights. And if it's something we feel we would like to look at or develop further... we'll be in touch!
