This November, multi-award winning The Kitchen Sink will be given its regional premiere at Hull Truck Theatre. The play follows the lives of a family living in the East Yorkshire coastal town of Withernsea. Dad Martin is feeling the pinch as his milk round gradually dwindles thanks to supermarket competition, and his float has seen better days. Daughter Sophie dreams of getting a black belt in ju-jitsu, her hot temper could get her in trouble and she's ignoring the advances of Pete. Meanwhile, son Billy is hoping for a new life at Art College. Holding the family together is mum Kath, a dinner lady with the patience of a saint and all she wants is a kitchen sink that works. The Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting is pleased to announce the first Bruntwood Prize Roadshow that will be taking place across the UK this autumn. Launched in 2005 The Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting aims to discover and promote the best writing for theatre and has established itself as the UK\'s most significant playwriting prize. Tom Wells, the Associate Playwright for Hull Truck Theatre, has been named the winner of The George Devine Award 2012 for his play, The Kitchen Sink. The annual award is given for new writing in theatre and is open to any playwright in the UK for an original stage play. The prize was established in 1966 as a memorial to the life and talent of George Devine, the founding Artistic Director of The Royal Court Theatre. Hull Truck Theatre is announcing the appointment of three new members to its creative team. The theatre, currently celebrating its 40th Anniversary, has made the additions to drive the company forward in its new 580-seat home in the heart of Hull's regenerated Ferensway area. Natalie Abrahami is Hull Truck's new Associate Artist, Tom Wells becomes an Associate Playwright and Kate Denby is Hull Truck's newly appointed Producer.

As part of its spring production, Hull Truck Theatre is partnering Dove House Hospice to raise awareness of their work in the local community. To coincide with the double-bill performances of Spoonface Steinberg and Krapp's Last Tape, Hull Truck will be donating a pound from the sale of every programme to the hospice. The show runs from Wednesday 11th April until Saturday 28th April, during which time the theatre will also be holding collections for the hospice.

This Spring, Hull Truck Theatre is creating a unique double-bill and uniting two celebrated writers to bring a worldwide first to its stage. Lee Hall's Spoonface Steinberg and Samuel Beckett's Krapp's Last Tape will be performed from Wednesday 11 - Saturday 28 April. The production marks the first time plays by Lee Hall (Billy Elliott) and Samuel Beckett (Waiting for Godot) will have been performed together as a double-bill. Previously, the Beckett Estate has only allowed the work of Harold Pinter to be performed in this way.

Hull Truck theatre has announced a second date for a special 40th anniversary reunion of theatre founder Mike Bradwell and the original Hull Truck actors, after the first date sold out. A second performance will now take place on Sunday 18 March.

The rarely performed comedy Weekend Breaks by John Godber is set to tour the UK this Spring with a stop off at Hull Truck Theatre on Tuesday 6 March. Weekend Breaks is a comedy about culture clashes that sees aspiring film writer Martin Dawson trying to patch things up with his wife and his disapproving working class parents after an extra marital fling. On a weekend break to Whitby, Martin rediscovers his roots and what it really means to love your parents; even when you want to kill them.

Hull Truck Theatre has enjoyed its busiest ever festive season after its two Christmas shows broke all previous box office records. The Flint Street Nativity written by Tim Firth, the creator of Calendar Girls, has become the biggest-selling single run of any play in Hull Truck history. The show, which has been running since the start of December is set in a fictional Hull school and follows the exploits of a class preparing for their annual nativity show. The bumper December has also been boosted by Hull Truck’s other Christmas production, The Elves and The Shoemaker by Hull Truck stalwart Nick Lane.

The spirit of the North will be celebrated throughout January and February as Hull Truck Theatre kicks-off its 40th birthday year with two classic plays performed by a specially formed ensemble cast. Once Upon a Time in Wigan is a revival of Mick Martin’s modern Northern classic featuring the sounds of Wigan Casino, live dancing and romance. The second ensemble play is a co-production between Hull Truck Theatre and Paines Plough of the Bruntwood Prize winning Sixty Five Miles.

Regional writers are set to be the toast of the town thanks to a new partnership between Hull Truck Theatre and an award-winning local brewery for the “A Play, a Pie and a Pint” series. Wold Top Brewery, based at Wold Newton, has become the official sponsor of the series which takes place on a monthly basis in the Studio Theatre. The deal will see theatregoers at the Ferensway venue enjoy a range of ales and homemade pies while they watch new plays from the region’s most exciting playwrights.

Hull Truck Theatre is joining forces with BBC Hull to host an evening of entertainment for this year’s Children in Need. On Friday 18 November, staff from BBC Radio Humberside, Look North and Radio Lincolnshire will head to Ferensway as part of the national fundraising effort where they will turn the main auditorium into a television studio.

After welcoming thousands of theatergoers and hosting thousands of performances, the curtain has finally fallen at the former home of Hull Truck Theatre. Contractors have started demolition work at the site in Spring Street which was home to Hull Truck for more than 25 years. The clearing at the site is expected to last until the end of next week.
