History

Hull Truck Theatre is dedicated to producing high quality theatre of intimate and epic scales at our home in Hull and beyond our walls, reaching diverse audiences including those encountering theatre for the first time.

Building on the traditions laid down by previous writers and directors – including Anthony Minghella, Gill Adams, Amanda Whittington, Alan Plater, Richard Bean, Mike Bradwell, John Godber and Gareth Tudor Price – Artistic Director Mark Babych is leading the company on the next stage of its exceptional journey, creating a vibrant 21st-century cultural organisation with a distinctive northern voice.

A key player in the successful bid team that delivered Hull 2017, UK City of Culture, Hull Truck Theatre makes and presents work that creatively responds to the future needs of our city. We work with partners, audiences and communities to create a vibrant cultural home, offering a diverse programme across two theatre spaces, from home-grown productions to inspirational visiting work by leading UK artists.

Through an extensive community engagement programme and commitment to growing the next generation of exceptional talent, Hull Truck Theatre uses its unique resources to bring local people, artists and audiences closer together. We tell extraordinary human stories that offer fresh and imaginative perspectives on the world, presenting each project to the highest artistic standards and encouraging the growth of people and ideas.
