With that, Mike Bradwell set out to establish one of the most innovative theatre companies in Britain. 2012 will be a year-long celebration of Hull Truck's 40th birthday.
New productions by former Artistic Directors Mike Bradwell and John Godber will sit alongside plays made by the new - and extraordinary - generation of Hull theatre-makers and writers today.
The anniversary of the first performances by the newly-formed Hull Truck Theatre Company, in March 1972, is marked by an unmissable evening reuniting the original Truckers.
And a host of memories from 1972 to the present will be stirred by a year-round exhibition hosted in the state-of-the-art surroundings of Hull Truck's new theatre. Keep an eye out throughout the year for more birthday treats.
The 40th birthday celebrations begin in earnest with a very special duo of plays, performed by an ensemble of actors. The 40 Ensemble (produced in association with Paines Plough) will perform two plays which encapsulate what Hull Truck is all about - producing plays by living writers, rooted in their community.
